CaixaBank has introduced a new carbon footprint verification service for business clients, ranging from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to large corporations. This initiative allows companies to verify their emissions after measuring them using CaixaBank’s CO2 calculator, reinforcing the bank’s commitment to sustainability.
Streamlining emissions verification for businesses
The verification service, developed in collaboration with AENOR, ensures compliance with the internationally recognized GHG Protocol standard. It enables businesses to confirm the accuracy of their Scope 1 and 2 emissions—covering direct emissions from fuel consumption and electricity use—across multiple sectors, including agriculture, waste management, and industrial operations. Companies may also opt to verify Scope 3 emissions, which account for indirect emissions from supply chains, travel, and waste disposal.
By providing official accreditation, the service helps businesses meet evolving environmental regulations and strengthen their sustainability credentials.
Enhancing carbon footprint measurement with technology
Recognizing the challenges businesses face in tracking emissions, CaixaBank launched its CO2 calculator in 2024. Available through the bank’s website and app, the tool simplifies emissions measurement using a verified calculation engine that aligns with international standards. It helps businesses identify key emission sources, compare their footprint against industry benchmarks, and receive recommendations for reduction strategies.
CaixaBank’s commitment to sustainability
This initiative aligns with CaixaBank’s 2025–2027 Sustainability Plan, which includes mobilizing €100 billion in sustainable finance to support renewable energy, clean mobility, and energy-efficient projects. The bank has also set emissions reduction targets for key industries, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050.
CaixaBank’s leadership in sustainability has been recognized by major global rating agencies, reinforcing its role as a key financial institution driving the transition to a low-carbon economy.
