The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) is set to revolutionize the payment experience for patients and pharmacy providers with the introduction of CommBank Smart Health for Pharmacies. Developed in collaboration with Scrypt Ventures, this innovative omni-channel solution enhances how patients pay for medications and over-the-counter goods, both in-store and remotely.

CommBank Smart Health for Pharmacies offers patients more payment options by enabling secure in-store and remote payments, including telephone orders for prescriptions and over-the-counter items. This seamless integration with the pharmacy's point of sale (POS) software ensures a smooth transaction process.

Mike Vacy-Lyle, CBA’s Group Executive Business Banking, highlighted the bank's commitment to the healthcare sector. “CommBank Health was established to identify unique opportunities to leverage our technology and work with industry-leading vendors to build solutions for Australia’s healthcare industry. We want to ensure the healthcare sector is supported by innovative payment solutions.”

Smart Health for Pharmacies simplifies access to prescriptions and goods, making the payment process safer, more efficient, and streamlined. This allows pharmacists to spend more time with patients.

The solution integrates the Scrypt.Pay mobile app for remote payments with the Smart Health in-store terminal solution. When a customer places an order, the pharmacist can initiate a payment request from their POS directly to the customer’s mobile phone. Customers receive an SMS with a validation code to enter into the Scrypt.Pay app, review their order, and check out securely using the CommBank Smart Health payment gateway.

Scrypt Founder and CEO Lloyd Smith praised the collaboration with CBA. “Collaborating with Commonwealth Bank to bring this solution to market has streamlined transactions, enhanced the customer experience, and empowered our pharmacy partners.”

CommBank Smart Health for Pharmacies will officially launch in the first quarter of FY25, following a successful 18-month pilot involving 22 pharmacies across Australia.
