Jeannette Anneser is Head of Prevention Solutions, Mobility and Living at Generali in Germany. She tells us about the Protect Me app project, and her reactions to receiving the gold award in the Social, Sustainable & Responsible category at the Qorus Innovation in Insurance Awards 2024.

Can you introduce yourself and tell us more about your role at Generali?

My name is Jeannette Anneser. I am with Generali Germany since 1997. My main interest is to contribute to innovative developments, but also to improvements for existing products and processes. Therefore, I have always worked in projects with the respective focus. Currently I lead a team within our organization that aims to develop services that help prevent or mitigate damages. We want to help our customers to be in more control of the risks they face.

What made you most proud of the Protect Me app project? What was your greatest achievement in making it happen?

I am especially proud that at Generali Germany we have colleagues who are not only experts in their respective fields, but really passionate about prevention, and who are always willing to compete for the very best solution for the benefit of our Generali Protect Me users. It was great to see how the joint objective to deliver a highly relevant and helpful solution led to even winning the Qorus award.

What’s the most important thing you would tell someone considering embarking on a similar project?

Launching a solution for the public is different than projects that focus, for example, on customers or internal processes, because the positive effects are not directly linked to the business. Therefore, I would tell them that sponsorship at a high management level is key for project success.

What's coming next for the Protect Me app project?

We continuously analyze sources of weather-related problems and of course the user feedback. Based on that, our next step was to prepare the integration of weather forecasts for each location a user entered into his app. But there is more to explore. The impact of extreme weather events on health is, for example, a very interesting field.

What would you say to companies that might consider entering the 2025 Insurance Innovation Awards?

Entering the 2025 Insurance Innovation Awards is a great chance to promote your project both internally and externally. It is motivating for the team and gives you the chance to inspire others. In addition, you yourself will be inspired by the projects other participants show. So, it is a win in any case – no matter if you become a finalist or not.

What does this award mean to you and your innovation team?

The award showed us that we are on the right track, that Protect Me is as relevant as we assumed. It motivates us to proceed with Protect Me and to continue in searching for further innovative prevention solutions.
