Last month at the Qorus Reinvention Awards – Europe 2024, Allianz Partners won the Operational Efficiency gold award for MAvalue, a mobile app that allows customers to submit claims quickly and easily. We asked José Antonio Molleda, the man behind the app, to tell us more about the project and what this award means to him and his team.

Can you introduce yourself and tell us more about your role at Allianz Partners?

My name is José Antonio Molleda and I am currently Global Head of Product Management and Innovation for Home Assistance at Allianz Partners. Within the Innovation team, we are determined to bring to life new solutions and services combining leading-edge technologies with the very best of human touch to truly build exceptional, peace-of-mind experiences throughout key moments of our customers’ lives.

What made you most proud of the MAvalue project? What was your greatest achievement in making it happen?

MAvalue is the perfect example of how the whole can be much greater than the sum of its parts. In this regard, we are especially proud of how we managed to combine the latest technology with the best of human touch.

First, our digital asset combines leading-edge technology, such as predictive models and AI algorithms, with wide data availability from 40+ years of experience in repair in-kind, including over 15 million claims handled and a database of more than 8 million goods for content valuation.

Then, another crucial aspect of the success of MAvalue was that the team involved embraced a divergent and multidisciplinary approach to work towards delivering the best possible experience to the end customer, to make express claim compensation a reality.

What is the most important thing you would tell someone considering embarking on a similar project?

Based on our extensive experience, we believe that technology alone holds limited significance. Without a thorough understanding of the industry and broad expertise, it is unlikely to yield successful outcomes. It is important to recognize that technology is now widely available and serves as a facilitator rather than an end in itself.

In order to prevent frustration and maximize return on investment, at Allianz Partners we prioritize addressing the most common industry pain-points, impacting efficiency or accuracy in decision-making, and we work on a case-by-case basis to apply specific technologies to solve very concrete problems and needs.

Additionally, it is essential to consider the significance of data pre-processing in order to ensure quality. This includes time consuming tasks such as cleaning and transforming raw data into a model, as well as reducing it by identifying pertinent information to enhance performance. Neglecting this process can have a considerable impact on the accuracy and validity of data analysis, and consequently, the overall foundation of the models being developed.

What's coming next for the MAvalue project?

The project has evolved from being tested internally, to being presented to some of our business units all over Europe, to finally being successfully piloted in three major European markets: Germany, France and Italy. Next steps involve a complete roll-out in Germany and France where we are currently working hand-in-hand with some of our key local partners.

What would you say to companies that might consider entering the 2024 Insurance Innovation Awards?

There are many reasons why we would encourage companies to enter the 2024 Insurance Innovation Awards.

This international competition provides companies in the insurance industry with great visibility and the chance to not only establish their brands as leaders but also substantially increase global awareness of new advancements and creative solutions recently developed.

Entering the competition also opens the door to engaging with the most innovative players in the sector and learning first-hand how forward-looking solutions are pushing boundaries.

What does this award mean to you and your innovation team?

This award holds a special place in our hearts as members of the Innovation team of the Home Line of Business at Allianz Partners. It not only acknowledges our efforts but also reinforces our commitment to continue striving for excellence. It’s proof that our innovative and digital capabilities are significantly enhancing operational efficiency and the way we support our customers worldwide.
