LeakBot monitors mains water supply and sends out warning when problems arise.
A leading UK home assistance provider is working with insurers Aviva to offer a new smart connected water leak detector to customers.
HomeServe has worked with Aviva to develop LeakBot, as the water leak detector is called.
Leaks in the home can be very damaging, and can often happen out of sight. With water escaping slowly over a prolonged period, people may not realise an issue has arisen until considerable damage has already been done.
The LeakBot device can detect leaks anywhere on the mains water supply of a home, and identify problems before significant damage is done.
LeakBot uses Thermi-Q technology, and can be installed by clipping the device to a pipe near the stopcock.
The system can be used to monitor a mains water supply around the clock, and can notify customers of any problems via their smartphone.
Following a series of tests and trials, Aviva is now offering LeakBot to selected customers.
“We know that water damage is a major issue for the insurance industry and their Customers, and LeakBot is a real game changer,” said Martin Bennett, CEO, HomeServe Membership. “To have a device like LeakBot that is easy to use and install, and can detect leaks to help avoid considerable damage to the home, is a real benefit for homeowners and insurers.”
Stephen Pond, managing director, Prevention and Services for Aviva, said: “Many people will have encountered a leak in their homes at some point, so it’s no surprise that repairing damage caused by leaks accounts for more than one in five of Aviva’s home insurance claims. Unfortunately, many leaks happen behind the scenes, which mean they can sometimes go undetected for weeks, months or even years, meaning water damage can be extremely extensive, destructive and disruptive to put right. So, catching leaks early and fixing them before much damage is done is definitely the way to go.”
