Metro Bank has launched a groundbreaking anti-fraud tool by partnering with AI-powered scam detection service Ask Silver. The new feature, known as the Metro Bank Scam Checker, allows both personal and business customers to quickly verify whether suspicious messages are fraudulent—using nothing more than a photo and WhatsApp.
By simply taking a screenshot or photo of a potentially fraudulent email, website, letter, or leaflet, customers can send it through WhatsApp to Ask Silver’s AI system. In just minutes, they’ll receive a response indicating whether the content is a scam, along with tips for staying safe. The service, which is free to all Metro Bank customers, also alerts relevant authorities automatically if fraud is detected.
Fighting fraud in a digital world
Fraud is one of the most common crimes in the UK, with over £1 billion lost to scams in 2023. Impersonation fraud—where scammers pretend to be legitimate organizations—is increasingly difficult for customers to spot. Metro Bank's new tool adds a much-needed layer of defense.
“This new partnership with Ask Silver is a game changer in protecting customers from fraud and helping to stop crime,” said Baz Thompson, Head of Fraud at Metro Bank. “Being able to offer a service where customers can know in minutes whether something is fraudulent provides an essential barrier to staying one step ahead of fraudsters.”
Personal inspiration drives innovation
Ask Silver was co-founded by Alex Somervell and Jonny Pryn after a relative lost £150,000 in a scam. Their mission is to build the most human-focused anti-scam company in the world. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Metro Bank,” said Somervell. “Together, we can help keep families and their finances safe.”
