Emirates NBD, a prominent banking group in the MENAT region, has announced a strategic partnership with BeZero Carbon, a global carbon ratings agency, to bolster customer confidence in voluntary carbon markets. This collaboration makes Emirates NBD the first bank in the UAE to utilize an independent ratings agency for carbon market trading, underscoring its commitment to offering top-quality solutions even in emerging markets.

Through this partnership, Emirates NBD will gain access to comprehensive, science-based risk assessments of carbon projects worldwide. This access will enable the bank to conduct enhanced due diligence on the carbon offset projects it offers to clients, ensuring that these investments meet the highest standards of quality and integrity.

As a regional leader in carbon credits trading, Emirates NBD is at the forefront of helping corporations manage their carbon emissions and align with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative. By partnering with BeZero Carbon, the bank is taking significant steps to ensure that its customers can confidently invest in high-quality carbon credits, thereby supporting global decarbonization efforts.

Vijay Bains, Chief Sustainability Officer and Group Head of ESG at Emirates NBD, emphasized the importance of this partnership in promoting environmental sustainability. "Our new partnership enables customers to fulfill their sustainable investment objectives by ensuring that every solution offered has been vetted and verified," Bains said.

Tommy Ricketts, CEO and co-founder of BeZero Carbon, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the growing demand for effective climate solutions in the region. "Buyers looking to invest in high-quality carbon credits need the right tools to build trust and transparency," Ricketts stated, noting that BeZero Carbon is proud to support businesses in the UAE in driving climate action.

This partnership reinforces Emirates NBD’s leadership in advancing environmentally responsible financial practices in the UAE and beyond.
