CLIMADA Technologies

Founder & Co-CEO

Simone Thompson, Founder & Co-CEO at CLIMADA Technologies, tells Qorus’ Boris Plantier about her company, a science-based, open-core climate risk analytics organization providing critical insights to companies worldwide.

What led to the creation of CLIMADA Technologies?

CLIMADA Technologies, a Zurich-based ETH spin-off, was established in 2022 by Co-CEOs Sebastian Glink and I, alongside Chairman of the Board, David N. Bresch. The company specializes in delivering scalable climate risk analytics and adaptation solutions, utilizing an open-source framework developed over the past decade at the ETH Weather and Climate Risk Group in collaboration with climate experts across the globe. Our purpose is lofty. We aim to advance the global mindset towards anticipating and thus adapting to climate change and impact, but our mission is critical. To provide as many people and companies as possible with critical data and insights for decision-making.

Could you present CLIMADA Technologies' offer?

CLIMADA Technologies serves a diverse clientele, including SMEs, global corporations, asset management firms, and governmental bodies. Our services cater to the needs of regulatory reporting, resilience assessments, and adaptation planning. Our SaaS platform offers detailed physical risk analytics, comprehensive risk assessments, and industry-specific financial risk metrics.

The core of our technology is the CLIMADA (CLIMate ADAptation) model, which evaluates the socioeconomic impacts of various weather and climate hazards. This encompasses acute hazards like storms and river floods, as well as chronic hazards such as droughts and sea-level rise. In essence, our software-as-a-service solution leverages advanced probabilistic modeling to provide thorough, defensible analyses. This generates critical, globally consistent data and climate-related insights for all major hazards, across all locations, temperature increases, and years through 2100.

What's coming next for CLIMADA Technologies?

CLIMADA Technologies is expanding its reach to serve an international clientele across multiple continents. Our mission is to empower decision-makers by embedding physical climate risk analytics at the core of their operations. By fully understanding the spectrum of potential hazards to their assets, businesses can make informed, strategic investment decisions.

While many companies concentrate on regulatory compliance, CLIMADA Technologies goes further by offering advanced solutions in climate adaptation. Once a company grasps its risk exposure, it can begin to implement strategies to minimize the impact of these hazards. This comprehensive approach ensures that businesses are equipped to make resilient and forward-thinking decisions.
