Itaú Unibanco has initiated a program aimed at enhancing financial literacy among elderly individuals in Brazil. Through its Itaú Viver Mais initiative, which focuses on supporting individuals aged 50 and above, the bank has rolled out a series of free content tracks accessible via WhatsApp. The primary objectives of the program are to raise awareness about common financial scams and frauds and to provide guidance on effective financial management practices.

The initiative is aligned with the National Financial Education Week and is expected to reach over 5,000 participants, including both Itaú customers and non-customers. Itaú Viver Mais, a non-profit association under Itaú Unibanco, seeks to empower elderly individuals by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of modern financial systems.

The content tracks are divided into two modules, each comprising six short video lessons and accompanying learning activities. Participants will also have access to e-books summarizing the key information covered in the tracks, as well as certificates of completion. The first module focuses on family financial education, offering practical tips on budgeting, savings strategies, and expense management. The second module addresses digital security, providing insights into safeguarding against online scams and frauds.

Adriano Volpini, Director of Corporate Security at Itaú Unibanco, emphasizes the bank's commitment to customer safety and education. He highlights the importance of staying vigilant in an increasingly digital world, where new threats emerge regularly.

The program comes at a crucial time, as reports of financial exploitation targeting the elderly have been on the rise in Brazil. By empowering elderly individuals with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves, Itaú Unibanco aims to promote financial well-being and independence among this demographic.

Luciana Nicola, Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at Itaú Unibanco, emphasizes the broader societal impact of the initiative. She underscores the importance of financial education in fostering a safer and more resilient community for people of all ages.

Through its Itaú Viver Mais initiative, Itaú Unibanco continues to demonstrate its commitment to social responsibility and financial inclusion, empowering individuals to make informed decisions and secure their financial futures.
