Definity, a leading property and casualty insurer, has introduced Sonnet Shift, a groundbreaking usage-based insurance (UBI) product. Available to Sonnet customers in Ontario, this personalized insurance solution offers more control over premiums and encourages safer driving habits.

Sonnet Shift is the first UBI product in Canada to offer quarterly price adjustments based on driving scores. It leverages individual driving behaviors and preferences, considering factors like time of day, fatigue, driving style, speed, mobile usage, and road risk. Powered by advanced telematics from The Floow and Munich Re Global Consulting, Sonnet Shift is a game-changer in the insurance industry.

Rowan Saunders, President and CEO at Definity, explained, "Definity is transforming the insurance landscape into one of empowerment and customization. Our customers can choose the insurance that suits them best."

Sonnet Shift offers several benefits for its users. Safe drivers can save up to 35% on auto insurance, and there's a mileage discount of up to 10% for those who drive less. The unique feature of quarterly reviews determines premium adjustments based on driving scores, with rewards or surcharges applied accordingly. Enrolling all household drivers can maximize savings, and users receive personalized tips based on their driving habits.

The mobile app provides 24/7 access to driving data, enabling users to monitor their driving behavior for each trip. Passengers can also indicate non-driving trips for accurate data capture. Projected discounts or surcharges are updated every Sunday in the app.

In line with Definity's commitment to sustainability, the company will donate 1% of all Sonnet Shift premiums to Green Communities Canada, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to grassroots climate action.

Paul MacDonald, Executive Vice-President, Personal Insurance & Digital Channels at Definity, affirmed the company's focus on innovation and customer empowerment, stating, "We're proud to offer a product that encourages safe, eco-friendly driving behaviors while strengthening our relationship with Green Communities Canada."

Sonnet Shift is immediately available to customers in Ontario, with plans for provincial expansion in the coming year. This initiative reinforces Definity's commitment to redefining the insurance experience and enhancing its customers' control and transparency.
