Artificial empathy is the development of AI systems—such as companion robots or virtual agents—that can detect emotions and respond to them in an empathic way according to an article by Özge Nilay Yalçin and Steve DiPaola. Artificial empathy is already used in therapeutic apps such as Replika. But should it be used in business apps? We asked Marianna Bergamaschi Ganapini, Faculty Director at the Montreal AI Ethics Institute, for her views on the subject.
