Donald MacDonald, Head of Group Data Office at OCBC Bank, talks about his company and its data analytics strategy.
What is your role and the scope of your responsibilities within the company?
The Group Data Office has three key functions:
- Manage the data strategy for the organization – ensuring that the most relevant data sets are integrated, usable and accessible to the data analysts. We also own and enhance the key analytics platforms such as the Data Lake and Data Science platforms across the OCBC Group.
- Develop data literacy skills across the organization so that all employees know how data can help optimize their jobs and upskill data practitioners with the relevant technical skills required to succeed.
- Work with the business units to proactively drive value from data – ensuring that data is actively used to transform our key processes with the objective of driving new revenues, increasing productivity and reducing risk.
The Group Data Office is a Center of Excellence supporting all analytical initiatives across the OCBC Group companies regionally. OCBC has a hybrid analytical operating model incorporating the central Group Data Office function and a number of federated teams supporting specific business areas (such as credit risk). The Group function and federated teams partner as necessary to deliver on the business needs.
