Tella Fatai, Chief Data Officer of Sterling Bank, talks about his company and its data analytics strategy.
What is your role and the scope of your responsibilities within the company? Are you responsible for all data analytics initiatives within the company and who are your internal customers? (Divisional, Business Units, Groups/functions such as IT, ESG, Legal, Marketing, Finance, Risk, etc.)
My role as Chief Data Officer is an enterprise one and it involves defining, developing and implementing the vision, strategy and methods by which my organization acquires, analyzes, governs and manages the quality of data. It also involves identifying new business opportunities available through more effective and creative use of data. Driving data culture change in the bank is another key responsibility, as is data monetization.
Data analytics initiatives within the bank are a joint responsibility as we operate a very fluid or dynamic approach, though I have the overall responsibility for the execution of such initiatives. As I mentioned earlier, I serve the whole organization.
